After the three major new products introductions for 1982, this year focused on powertrain refinements for performance and economy.

Continuing demand kept the twin full-size Chevrolets around, but they lost a number of models this year.
Caprice fielded a Sedan and Nine-Passenger (three seat) Station Wagon.
No two-door models were left. Base Sedan engine remained the 229 cu. in. (3.8-litter) V-6. The Caprice Wagon continued with the 305 cu. in. (5.0-litter) V-8.Options included the 305 gas V-8, 350 diesel V-8, new four-speed overdrive transmission with 0.79:1 top gear, and a higher number (3.08:1 axle ratio).
