There are those who maintain that elegant travel flourished only in a bygone era.
Now comes the 1986 Caprice Classic Brougham, a plush new Chevrolet that renews the tradition whith impeccable style. A new Caprice Classic Brougham Sedan joined the full size line-up.
Three other Classic models were offered:
Two-Door Sports Coupe, Four-Door Sedan and Four-Door Wagon,
plus a lower-priced Four-Door Caprice Sedan.
All models have the same, somewhat rounded front-end look this year.

That includes a new Grille and Bumper Filler Panel, Flush Mounted Crest, and new Bezels for Headlamps and Marker Lamps. Coupes and Sedans also had Restyled Tri-Section Taillamps in a Full Width End Panel, plus a new Filler Panel and Bumper Rub Strips.
Each Taillamp was split horizontally.

Base prices were $700 - $800 highter than in 1985. Four-Speed Overdrive Automatic was now optional with the Base 262 cu. in. (4.3-litter) V-6 Engine. The Diesel V-8 was dropped, but the 305 cu. in. (5.0-litter) gas V-8 remained optional (standard on Wagons).

Engines used a new Poly V Alternator Drive belt. Power Windows and Seat Controls moved to the top of New Front Door Armrest Extensions.
The new Brougham Sedan package included a Full Vinyl Roof, Cloth 55/45 Pillow-Style Front Seats with Center Armrests, Front-Door Dome/Map and Warning Lights, Bright Brushed Metal Center Pillar Applique, and 'Brougham'Identification.
Standard equiptment on the basic Caprice Sedan included a:
AM Radio, Power Brakes and Steering, Three-Speed Automatic Transmission, Full Wheel Covers, Folding Front Center Armrest, Cloth Bench Seats, Day/Night Mirror, Front Stabilizer Bar, Two-Speed Wiper/Washers, Bright Molding (Roof Drip, Windshield, Belt and Sill), and Lower Carpet Door Trim Panels.
Caprice Classic added a Quartz Clock, Cloth Insert Door Trim Panels, Dual-Note Horn, Wheel Opening and Bright Wide Lower Bodyside Moldings and Headlamps-On Buzzer.
Coupes and Sedans and Bumper Rub Strips. Wagons had a Power Tailgate Window, Heavy-Duty Suspension, and Overdrive Automatic Transmission.

Caprice and Pontiac's Parisenne were the last of the Traditional Rear-Drive Full-Size Family Sedans left in the GM lineup, regularly threatened with extinction but continued to find quite a few buyers.
